Phat Camp

Phat Camp combines creative arts, movement and self-defense, therapeutic healing, community discussion, activism and self-care in a holistic, harm-reduction based approach to body empowerment. We value individual choices around eating and exercise and emphasize self-love as the basis of living in and growing in our bodies.

We are currently running a weekly discussion group, starting up a clinical group, and planning and networking towards the eventuality of a youth retreat.

Phat Camp is doing a three hour workshop at this year’s NOLOSE conference (www.nolose.org), presented by Shira Hassan, Kim Paulus, Naima Lowe, Nomy Lamm and Geleni Fontaine. The workshop focuses on deprogramming
ourselves from the myths that surround fat people’s lives, and rewriting them from the inside out through visualization, writing, vocalization and martial arts. Together we will take steps towards expressing our true selves in the context of a supportive community.

PHAT CAMP PRESENTS NEW BODY IMAGE DISCUSSION GROUP
Sundays starting in June, 10 – 11:30 am at the Mess Hall in Rogers Park
(please check the website for specific dates)

If you’re 18 or older and are:
- angry about negative messages regarding bodies, health and beauty
- tired of taking society’s shit out on your body
- ready to see connections between body-image, sexuality, race, class and ability
- willing to honor yourself for your strength and resilience
- interested in finding community

then your presence is desired at PHAT CAMP’s new FREE weekly discussion group on issues of Body Image and Empowerment. We are fat-positive, trans-positive, and work to be in and know our bodies as growing, changing, and powerful.

Through community-based discussion combined with creative, therapeutic, and self-defense exercises, we will explore topics of health, sexuality, oppression, family, self-esteem, and whatever else YOU bring to it.

Sunday mornings, 10-11:30 a.m. beginning JUNE 19 at the Mess Hall (6932 N. Glenwood Avenue) in Rogers Park.
