Bio:

Nomy Lamm has been a leading voice in feminist and queer movements over the past decade. Raised in Olympia, WA, her art became radicalized by her involvement in the Riot Grrrl movement of the early nineties, and continued to evolve over time by bringing together and empowering seemingly disparate pieces of her identity. By doing this she is able to create a cohesive perspective that is queer, feminist, anti-racist, non-hierarchical, and mindful of the realities of this technological age.

At age 17 she began publishing her own writing in a zine she called “i’m so fucking beautiful.” The purpose of the zine was to connect her body, fat phobia and self-hatred to a larger system that perpetuates oppression and keeps us shut down and separated from each other. A year later she was recognized in MS. Magazine as one of “Fifty Faces of Feminism,” and soon after that published her first essay - “It’s a Big Fat Revolution,” originally published in “Listen Up: Voices from the next feminist generation” by Seal Press. This essay is now used in Women’s Studies textbooks and curriculums at numerous colleges and universities throughout the US.

Her background in performing and presenting is extensive. She has spoken to students all over the country about gender, body image, queerness and disability, combining music, lecture, visual art and spoken word to communicate a message of personal empowerment that anyone can relate to if they choose to be open to it.

Nomy is also the co-creator of numerous musical theater projects including the epic rock opera “The Transfused,” (Co-written with Rachel Carns, Radio Sloan, Emily Stern and Freddie Fagula). “The Transfused” is a post-apocalyptic vision of multi-gendered mongrel people finding community and empowerment under the oppressive rule of The Corporation. The soundtrack is now being used in a midwestern university curriculum as part of an economics and poli-sci class.

Nomy has presented at dozens of colleges and universities over the past ten years, including Barnard University, UC Santa Cruz, Rhode Island School of Design, Kent State, and College of Santa Fe. Her presentations combine lecture, visual art, music and spoken word, covering topics of gender & sexuality, queerness & disability, feminism, body image, activism and empowerment. Titles include: “Body Anarchy: Prescriptions for Personal Revolution,” and “Gender Apocalypse: An End of Finalities.” Nomy is also
available for panel discussions, performances and workshops.
